ClassicPress Feeds

ClassicPress FeedsLink to this section

A feed is an automated, computer-readable XML file that shares your site’s newest posts. Readers can use feed reader plugins or apps to follow your site and get updates whenever you publish a new post. You can access your feed directly by adding /feed behind your site domain (e.g. https://www.example.com/feed).

By default, ClassicPress comes with support for the following feeds. Note that Atom is the successor and improved version of RSS 2.0, although RSS 2.0 is still the default option.

// RDF/RSS 1.0 feed
https://www.example.com/feed/rdf/

// RSS 0.92 feed
https://www.example.com/feed/rss/

// RSS 2.0 feed
https://www.example.com/feed/

// Atom feed
https://www.example.com/feed/atom/

// Comments RSS 2.0 feed
https://www.example.com/comments/feed/

Built-in FeedsLink to this section

This section and the next one are intended for developers that want to add support for feeds to their theme.

Feeds are generated by template tag bloginfo() for each type of feed and are typically listed in the sidebar and/or footer of a blog site. They look like this:

// URL for RDF/RSS 1.0 feed
<?php bloginfo('rdf_url'); ?>

// URL for RSS 0.92 feed
<?php bloginfo('rss_url'); ?>

// URL for RSS 2.0 feed
<?php bloginfo('rss2_url'); ?>

// URL for Atom feed
<?php bloginfo('atom_url'); ?>

// URL for comments RSS 2.0 feed
<?php bloginfo('comments_rss2_url'); ?>

The first four feeds display recent updates and changes to your site’s content for the different feedreaders. Of these, the RSS feeds are the most well known. The last feed example is used by RSS 2.0 feedreaders and does not show your site’s content. It only shows the comments made on your site.

Adding FeedsLink to this section

Nowadays only few themes feature the feed types that are available through ClassicPress. To add a feed to your theme, find the location of where the other feeds are (if any), typically in your sidebar.php or footer.php template files of your theme. Then add one of the tags listed above to the list, like this example:

<ul class="feeds">
  <li><a href="<?php bloginfo('rss2_url'); ?>" title="<?php _e('Syndicate this site using RSS'); ?>"><?php _e('<abbr title="Really Simple Syndication">RSS</abbr>'); ?></a></li>
  <li><a href="<?php bloginfo('atom_url'); ?>" title="<?php _e('Syndicate this site using Atom'); ?>"><?php _e('Atom'); ?></a></li>
  <li><a href="<?php bloginfo('comments_rss2_url'); ?>" title="<?php _e('The latest comments to all posts in RSS'); ?>"><?php _e('Comments <abbr title="Really Simple Syndication">RSS</abbr>'); ?></a></li>
</ul>
